Stories of Women and Work
“The Broad Experience,” a podcast produced in New York, NY, focuses on working women’s experience. The first half of this “In Other Words” consists of one of those podcasts (brought to us through the Womens’ International News Gathering Service). It’s a smorgasbord of glimpses into issues of women and work around the globe. The second half zooms in on one very specific time and place: Whitefish, Montana, in the early twentieth century, when Dorothy Johnson and other telephone girls struggled to keep their town connected. Beth Judy reads a selection from “When You and I were Young, Whitefish” by Dorothy Johnson (shown below): “Confessions of a Telephone Girl.” This show aired on April 23, 2013, on Montana Public Radio.
